Acceptable Use Policy

Geode is for learning and creating. This policy sets out safe, lawful and ethical use — especially in the field.

Last updated: 2026-07-13

Fieldwork safety

Fieldwork content is general information only and does not encourage entering dangerous locations (cliffs, tidal zones, quarries, mine workings, private land). Follow local law and collecting ethics.

  • Stay away from cliff edges and bases, tidal zones, quarries, mine workings and unstable ground.
  • Check tide times and weather; tell someone where you are going.
  • Geode's guidance is general information, not a safety assessment for any specific site.

Collecting ethics and the law

  • Only collect where it is legal and permitted, and take loose material rather than hammering in place.
  • Do not damage or remove material from protected sites (for example designated conservation or scientific sites), and do not disturb or extract fossils where it is restricted.
  • Always get the landowner's permission; never trespass on private land.
  • Follow any local collecting codes and leave sites as you found them.

Prohibited uses of the service

  • Using outputs for prospecting, mining, or engineering, foundation or construction decisions.
  • Using outputs to appraise, authenticate, price, trade or insure specimens.
  • Uploading content you have no right to use, or that is unlawful or infringing.
  • Attempting to disrupt, reverse-engineer or abuse the service, or to generate misleading claims of professional certification.

Enforcement

We may limit or suspend accounts that breach this policy. Report concerns to support@arageos.shop. Governed by the law of England and Wales.
